If you’ve been following along, you know our last blog post detailed the amazing VIP tickets that Craig surprised me with for the grand opening of Magnolia Market at the Silos. If you haven’t read that post, click here – You won’t want to miss it!
Taking a break in the middle of the Parade of Homes, Craig and I made a quick trip to Waco, Texas to check out first-hand the new Magnolia Market at the Silos, owned and operated by Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. After spending a glorious day traveling and shopping, we got to flash our VIP tickets to gain access to the exclusive rooftop. Needless to say we had an incredible view of the concert situated below at the base of the silos.
We were downright giddy standing beneath the strings of Italian lights as we waited for our chance to meet Chip and Jo. Upon introducing ourselves we asked if we could take a funny picture. True to his on-air personality, Chip immediately bear hugged Craig and started sucking his thumb. It was hilarious! Jo threw her arms around me like we were lifelong friends and told me she really liked me haircut (swoon). After our photos they were whisked away to the top of the silos to publicly welcome their guests in the concert crowd below. They asked everyone to wave at the sky as a drone buzzed over our heads shooting film for Episode 3 of the show – Be sure to look for us frantically waving from the rooftop!
The silos are rustically cool in and of themselves, but there is also a breathtaking outdoor venue space in between the silos and the store space creating a dramatic backdrop for the concert. The web of lights created a romantic and relaxing atmosphere that warmly invited guests to dine at picnic tables after picking up dinner from one of the many food trucks attending the event. As a former event planner, my mind spun out of control imagining the potential for future concerts, farmers markets, weddings, and community events.
Following the introduction atop the silos, Chip and Jo took to the main stage to welcome everyone again and show exclusive sneak peek clips of the upcoming season of Fixer Upper. Be sure to watch for Chip with a disgusting snake skin hanging out of this mouth (gag)! They also announced their latest project – a five bedroom bed and breakfast just outside of town anticipated to be open by Christmas 2015 – Hello, Santa! They let us into their world telling stories of their adventure finding, buying and renovating the silos (all in only a year) and Chip’s stage fright in Season 1, leading up to his crazy fearlessness in Season 3. They were very open about their faith, which we appreciated, and very real.
After their welcome the band took stage and we all enjoyed wood-fired pizzas and ice cream sandwiches from the food trucks under the stars – or in this case, the stings of Italian lights! We were so lucky to experience this laid-back, relaxing, and joyful event that was so reflective of Chip and Jo.
